Turkey Trot set for Thanksgiving morning

The Chester County Turkey Trot will hold its 22nd event on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 23, to raise funds to aid children who have cancer. The event will take place at Downingtown High School West, 445 Manor Ave., Downingtown.

The elite 5K will begin at 7:40 a.m., followed by the regular 5K and a 2K walk at 8:15 a.m. The kids' run on the track will begin at 9 a.m. A virtual option is also available for the Turkey Trot.

Anyone who plans to walk is asked to consider doing the 2K walk instead of the 5K race as the course is usually very crowded. Walkers who already signed up for the 5K do not need to switch their event online; they should simply start with the walkers inside the stadium.

Due to the large number of participants, the use of strollers and baby joggers is discouraged in the regular 5K. Strollers and baby joggers are not permitted in the elite wave. No pets are allowed at the event.

Technical shirts are guaranteed to the first 2,200 registered runners. No shirts will be provided for virtual participants or those taking part in the kids' run.

In the past, this race has attracted up to 3,000 registered runners. The event has helped to raise over $500,000 for childhood cancer research since 2012.

There is a fee to participate, but the kids' run is free. To sign up, visit https://runsignup.com/Race/PA/Downingtown/ChesterCountyTurkeyTrot.
