TVHS Names Intern Of The Month

Evan Hill, a senior at Twin Valley High School (TVHS), has been named February's Intern of the Month. Evan interns in Shelley Baker's classroom at TVHS and at PhytogenX Inc. in Morgantown, a manufacturing facility specializing in personal care beauty products.

On Mondays and Thursdays, Evan assists Baker, the TVHS chemistry teacher, with lab preparation, cleaning and other tasks.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, he works in PhytogenX's research and development lab. His mentor, Floriane DeMichiel, research and development manager, provides Evan with instructions to create test trials of products that are requested by name-brand companies. Using laboratory equipment, Evan recently made PhytogenX hand soap to be used in the office.

In addition to research and development, Evan was introduced to the quality control, batching and production departments.

TVHS internship coordinator Gwen Werner helped Evan find his internship at PhytogenX because of his interest in chemistry. Evan intends to pursue a degree in chemistry or possibly chemical engineering.
