Twin Valley To Celebrate Arts Month

During the month of March, Twin Valley High School (TVHS) is showcasing its arts program, with a focus on music and theater at TVHS and in the world at large.

Each week will have a specific theme, and students, faculty members and the community are invited to participate by sending examples of how art and music impact their lives. Videos and photos can be emailed to music teacher Tonna Dieter at tdieter@tvsd.org or agriculture science teacher Nicole Weaver at nweaver@tvsd.org. Items shared on social media throughout the month should include the hashtag #MusicTheSoundofmyHeart.

For example, people may find inspiration listening to music, drawing or painting, taking pictures in nature or playing an instrument. "We will use that hashtag for the entire month. Participants can upload their entries onto their own social media - Facebook, Instagram, etc. - and use the hashtag for cross-reference," Weaver explained.

Additionally, the National Association for Music Education (NafME) has created a logo that participants can use as profile pictures for the month of March. The logo can be found at http://www.nafme.org/programs/miosm/change-profile-picture-music-schools-month.

According to Weaver, March is typically observed as Theater in Our Schools and Music in Our Schools Month. "Tonna and I wanted to join forces to celebrate all of the arts. So, this is officially the first 'March Arts,'" said Weaver. "The only impact from the pandemic is that we will have a mostly digital presence for this year. We hope to continue this and evolve it as the years go. We eventually see this as a school-wide cross-curricular celebration of the arts in everything we do."

For week one, "The Arts Speak to My Heart" was the theme, and week two is themed "The Arts Are a Shared Language."

"The Arts Build Communities" will be the theme of week three, which will highlight faculty members who share their love of arts with their students. "We will have videos made of faculty in each building. These videos will be shared during morning announcements at the high school," Weaver said. "We will also showcase companies and individuals in the community who work in a field of the arts and enhance the quality of our community. We can't have guest speakers come in, so we are going to ask them to submit videos for us to share."

During the final week, themed "The Arts Create a Global Culture," students will view videos of how art is celebrated in cultures around the world.
