Twin Valley to host alumni event

Teachers, staff members and graduates of the Twin Valley School District (TVSD) from 1956 through the present are invited to attend an All Twin Valley Alumni Event on Saturday, May 20, from 4 to 11 p.m. at the Reading Liederkranz, 143 Spook Lane, Reading. The family-friendly event, which will include live music, drawings, games and an opportunity to purchase dinner, is being presented by the Twin Valley Community Education Foundation (TVCEF) Alumni Committee.

"We look forward to seeing many Twin Valley alumni for this multigenerational event," said Susan Sanger, a fourth-grade teacher at Twin Valley Elementary Center and member of the TVCEF Alumni Committee. "There will be food, music, drinks, yard games and plenty of time to catch up about our high school days."

Doors will open at 4 p.m. for a two-hour social time. Attendees will also be able to purchase tickets to enter a drawing to win gift baskets as well as sports jerseys from Twin Valley's history that have been donated by the athletic department.

The Natalie Jane Band, featuring Twin Valley alumna Natalie Dodd, will perform from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. At 8 p.m., the prize drawing winners will be announced. The Phoenix Sideshow band, which includes Twin Valley alumnus Joe Notario, will be featured from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Among the German food items that will be available for purchase are bratwurst sandwiches with sauerkraut, goulash over noodles, a pork schnitzel dinner and a Liederkranz burger with cheese. There is also a vegetarian option of butternut squash ravioli or penne pasta with vegetables. Appetizers will include Bavarian pretzels with or without bier cheese. Apple strudel, assorted cakes and ice cream will be available for dessert.

According to Sanger, the goal of the first-time event is not to replace individual class reunions. "While in school, we were friends with people of all ages, and class reunions only allow you to see your fellow classmates," she noted. "In having a multigenerational event, including teachers and staff from the past, it allows whole families to gather and to enjoy each other's company. The Alumni Committee is new to the Twin Valley Community Education Foundation, so it is allowing us to build a database of alumni."

A fee will be charged for adults. Youths age 17 and under will be admitted for free. Those who purchase tickets using cash on the day of the event will receive a discount.
