University Choir to Perform

The Messiah University Concert Choir will present a concert of sacred and secular choral works at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, on Saturday, April 11, at 7 p.m. The choir has prepared this music for its upcoming tour to Finland, Estonia, and Latvia.

Conducted by Joy Elizabeth Meade, the program will include a variety of arrangements and original compositions from Renaissance to contemporary. The concert will be divided into four sections, preceded by an instrumental prelude by a French horn quartet. The first section will feature hymns and praise songs, including Johann Schuetz's "Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above," Tim Brent's "Peace Song," and Charles Stanford's "Beati Quorum Via." The second section will feature joyful and reflective pieces like "Simple Gifts" and "It's You I Like," highlighting themes of gratitude, hope, and community. The third section will offer contemplative works, and the final portion will present spirituals.

The Messiah University Concert Choir is an undergraduate ensemble with a history of national and international performances, including collaborations with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. Meade is an experienced choral director with advanced degrees and leadership roles in various choral organizations.

Admission is free, and a freewill offering will be received. To learn more about the church, visit http://www.westpca.com.
