Vendor event will highlight Memorial Day weekend

East Prospect will be buzzing with activity on Memorial Day weekend. "We will have lots of people out and about walking around town," said Jessica Winchester, describing all the events happening on Saturday, May 27, and Sunday, May 28. Winchester, a volunteer with East Prospect Community Pride, is organizing a Memorial Day Weekend Vendor Event on May 27 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the East Prospect Municipal Building, 28 W. Maple St. "We are going to have some independent sales vendors, crafters and businesses," she stated. "We will also be selling baked goods. We'll have a bunch of vendors inside the building, but we will also have some vendors outside." Along with vendors, the event will feature hands-on activities from Crawford's Reptile Encounters.

While the vendor event is going on, East Prospect Fire Company will hold a chicken barbecue beginning at 11 a.m. It will be located at 13 W. Ridge Ave. Tickets will be available for purchase ahead of time through the "East Prospect Fire Company" Facebook page, or meals may be purchased the day of the event until sold out.

Throughout East Prospect, community yard sales will be happening on May 27 as well, Winchester noted. "There will really be a lot going on in town that day," she remarked, noting that any residents are invited to set up a yard sale at their home.

She noted that pre-COVID, East Prospect used to hold a vendor event, but this will be the first year it is returning since the start of the pandemic. East Prospect Community Pride is organizing the event. The group of volunteers work together to promote events and activities in East Prospect, Winchester explained. "All of the community groups in our area try to work together to support each other," she stated. Throughout the year, East Prospect Community Pride organizes a variety of events, including a car show, a Memorial Day parade, free movie nights, Trunk or Treat, a Veterans Day breakfast and breakfast with Santa. Most of the events have no admission charge, Winchester said. This year's Memorial Day parade will be held on May 28 beginning at 4 p.m.

"East Prospect Community Pride is just here to build up our community and get everyone together to have enjoyable events with our families and friends," Winchester stated. "We like to promote our town and everything that's going on."
