Veterans Day program set in Marietta

A Veterans Day program, brick dedication and flag ceremony will be held on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. in Studio 264 at the Marietta Community House, 264 W. Market St., Marietta. Veterans and their families, as well as the general public, are invited to attend.

Members of the Marietta American Legion Post 466 will join the Community House in recognizing all local veterans, including Lt. Benjamin Hiestand, in whose honor the Community House was formed. Hiestand died while serving during World War I.

The event will also include a short ceremony, during which the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard will present the colors. David Chobanoff, commander of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 466, will be the keynote speaker, and officials and members of the Marietta Legion Post 466 will also provide remarks. Following the ceremony, a flag-placing ceremony will occur on the hill at the Community Bible Church in Marietta.

The day's events will also include a dedication of additional bricks to the Community House's Buy-A-Brick program. This project honors and remembers local individuals and businesses. A reading of the inscriptions will be presented as well as comments from the donors. Money received from this project has been used to repair and maintain the Marietta Community House for use by the local community.

There will be a brief reception, featuring refreshments.

The event is free of charge. For more information, contact Nancy Kulman, secretary of the Marietta Community House, at 717-572-1117 or 717-426-1229.
