VFW Posts Youth Singing Contest

The VFW Auxiliary has announced a new contest, Get Excited for the Red, White and Blue. Youths ages 6 to 16 are invited to participate by making a video of themselves singing "The Star-Spangled Banner." Youths may sing in the musical style of their choice, but they may not change the lyrics.

State winners' entries will advance to the national headquarters by Wednesday, May 5. At the national level, winners in each of the 10 program divisions will receive gift cards. One national winner will receive a gift card for a greater amount, and this student will be announced and his or her video performance will be featured at the National Convention 2021 in Baltimore.

Participants may submit entries to youth activities chairman Gwen Avers by Wednesday, March 31, via DVD, flash drive, or an online perform such as YouTube or Vimeo. Youths may also give their entries to their school office, and an Auxiliary member will stop by local schools on Thursday, April 1, to pick up the entries.

For the entry form and more details, readers may visit http://www.vfwauxiliary.org/resources and scroll down to "Youth Activities." Questions may be directed to Avers at flavers@comcast.net or 717-419-8217.
