Vietnam Round Table to meet

The Central Pennsylvania Vietnam Round Table will meet on Thursday, Dec. 14, at Vietnam Veterans of America, Michael J. Novosel MOH Chapter 542, 8000 Derry St., Harrisburg, at 7:30 p.m. Following a brief business meeting, Lou Frank from Camp Hill will discuss his experiences as a cargo loader/unloader with the Air Force in Vietnam.

Frank grew up in Philadelphia and enlisted in the Air Force, attending basic training at Amarillo Air Force Base in Texas and technical training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. He then served three months at Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina before deploying to Vietnam in 1968 for an 18-month tour of duty. He arrived in Da Nang two weeks after the start of the Tet Offensive. He rotated to smaller Army and Marine bases in Phu Bai, A Shau Valley, Quang Tri and Camp Evans to unload and load cargo. He went to Hue during Tet, unaware that Hue was the scene of heavy fighting. One of Lou's duties was to load the remains of service members being transported home for burial. Following his Vietnam service, he finished his enlistment at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. For his military service, Frank was awarded 11 ribbons with 11 devices. He now re-enacts his time in Vietnam with A Company/1st of the 7th/1st Air Cavalry Re-enactors.

The meeting is open to the public, and donations will be accepted. For additional information, contact Richard Burton at 717-545-2336 or centralpavietnamrt@verizon.net or visit http://www.centralpavietnamroundtable.com.
