Vietnam Round Table to meet

The Central Pennsylvania Vietnam Round Table will meet on Thursday, July 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Vietnam Veterans of America, Michael J. Novosel MOH Capital Chapter 542, 8000 Derry St., Harrisburg. Following a brief business meeting, Dave Karp from Harrisburg will discuss his tour in Vietnam with the Marine Corps.

In Vietnam, Karp served as a corpsman with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. He served in Khe Sanh for nine months, starting in January 1968 right before the Tet Offensive, and then was transferred to the First Shore Party Battalion in Da Nang. During his service in Vietnam, a leg injury caused Karp to be medevaced to the Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan, about three weeks before he was due to return home.

Karp entered the Navy in 1966 and was assigned to the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Va. He left active duty in 1970 and then served in the Naval Reserves for an additional 10 years. Following his military service, Karp earned a degree in accounting from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.

The meeting is open to the public, and donations will be accepted.
