Vietnam Round Table to meet

Central Pennsylvania Vietnam Round Table will meet on Thursday, Aug. 10, at Vietnam Veterans of America, Michael J. Novosel Medal of Honor Capital Chapter 542, 8000 Derry St., Harrisburg, at 7:30 p.m. Following a brief business meeting, Walt Hooper from Harrisburg will discuss his military service in Vietnam from November 1967 through November 1968.

Hooper is a Harrisburg native, graduating from John Harris High School in 1965. Following graduation, he worked for the highway department until he was drafted in June 1967. He was sent to Vietnam and served with the 1/6th Light Infantry Brigade/198th Regiment/Americal Division. In June 1968, he was assigned to an MP unit in Saigon until November 1968, when he rotated home. He spent the last six months in the military at Fort Ord, California.

Following his military service, Hooper stayed in Los Angeles until June 1972, when he returned to Pennsylvania. He worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Hooper is the father of two sons.
