Vietnam veteran to speak

The Central Pennsylvania Vietnam Round Table will meet on Thursday, Nov. 9, at Vietnam Veterans of America, Michael Novosel MOH Chapter 542, 8000 Derry St., Harrisburg, at 7:30 p.m.

Following a brief business meeting, Eddie Beckford from Camp Hill will discuss his September 1966 to August 1967 service in Vietnam, where he was a member of the Air Force's 819th RED HORSE (Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineers), stationed near Phu Cat and Qui Nhon in II Corps. Beckford grew up in Manhattan, New York, and graduated from high school in 1964. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1966, receiving basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, before being assigned to Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. He received several medals for his service.

From 2001 to 2017, Eddie and his wife, Lura, served as Christian missionaries in Israel with Jewish Outreach International, a group Eddie still works with. Lura co-authored a book about their experiences titled "Stop Doing Good: A Love Story."
