Volunteer workday set in Marietta

The Marietta Shade Tree Commission will hold a volunteer workday on Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will cut down vines that are damaging the trees along the Northwest River Trail Forest in Marietta. The paved trail runs north from the Columbia Crossing River Trails Center to Bainbridge and along the river for about 16 miles.

Volunteers are invited come to the crossing at Chestnut and Front streets in Marietta where a member of the Marietta Shade Tree Commiission will give a few simple instructions. Volunteers should cover up and bring needed tools such as pruners, loppers and small saws or hatchets.

During the workdays in January and February, volunteers cut vines from many trees starting at the bridge at New Haven Street and continuing toward Bank Street.

As the weather warms, the commission will change its focus to preparing sites for tree planting.
