Volunteers Sought For Gala Event

Revolutionary War re-enactors will mark the 245th anniversary of the Battle of Brandywine on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25, at Sandy Hollow Heritage Park, South New Street and Birmingham Road, Birmingham Township.

Music, battle re-enactments, food, family activities, period vendors, talks on historic subjects, and historic interpreters will be part of the gala. Attendees will be able to inspect the camps of both armies, and there will be opportunities to converse with interpreters portraying George Washington, Lafayette, and Alexander Hamilton. The liaison to the British troops is Paul Loane of the 43rd Foot, while Tom Bowen is the Continental forces liaison.

Officials of both Birmingham and Thornbury townships are supporting the event, along with Chadds Ford Historical Society and Thornbury Farm CSA.

Planning for the event has been underway for two years, and volunteers and sponsors are being sought. To volunteer, visit http://www.brandywine2022.com. Volunteers are also encouraged to attend the next planning meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Thornbury Farm CSA, 1256 Thornbury Road, West Chester.

This is the third re-enactment, with the first two held in 2014 and 2017. To learn more, search for "Brandywine 2022" on Facebook.
