Spend time together with community members and first responders when Voyage Mount Joy hosts National Night Out. The event will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Delta Street, directly across from the Mount Joy Borough office building.

"This is an amazing event and opportunity for the entire Mount Joy community to meet and learn more about the first responders that work tirelessly to keep us all safe every day," said Allory Melhorn, event director for Voyage Mount Joy. "They can meet members of the Mount Joy police force, fire department, EMTs and others, as well as learning more about important first aid techniques and exploring some of their equipment that gets used during an emergency."

Mount Joy's National Night Out event will also include live music by Barkley Cove, a dunk tank, a bounce house and a kids' painting area for families to enjoy.

"Food vendors include Voyage Mount Joy selling hot dogs, drinks, chips and cotton candy; The Joy of Sweets and Treats selling ice cream and candy; Hulk Hoagies; and the Rotary Fry Wagon," Melhorn shared. "The Mount Joy police department will have a police cruiser. The Mount Joy fire department will have a fire truck. Life Lion will have an ambulance, and the PA Fish and Boat Commission will have a boat. A tow truck will also be present all for kids and families to discover and check out up close."

Held annually on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out began in 1984 as a way to bring police and community members together. The first year, 2.5 million people across 400 communities in 23 states participated in the event. Over the years, the celebration has grown to encompass 38 million people in 17,000 communities throughout the United States.

Voyage Mount Joy is a nonprofit that formed in the summer of 2021 to shine a spotlight on the town and promote community activities.

"Events like National Night Out are very important to the community to encourage togetherness," Melhorn shared. "And it's a great, fun, family-friendly event for everyone to enjoy on a weeknight."
