Wagner Competes In Junior Amateur Championship

Logan Wagner, a Solanco junior, competed in the 73rd U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in Pinehurst, N.C., on July 19 and 20. In a field of 264, Wagner, in stroke play, carded a combined 165 on the two courses at Pinehurst, shooting an 84 on the par 71 Cardinal Course on July 19 and an 81 on the par 72 Dogwood Course on July 20. The top 19 scores were all under par. Kelly Chinn recorded the best two-day score, a 132. A +4 was the cut for match play.

"It was a great experience, and I look forward to trying to qualify again next year," said Wagner.

Nearly 4,000 players around the world vied for a place in the championship, so to qualify was an accomplishment in itself. Wagner shot a one over par 73 in the qualifier at Doylestown Country Club and then won a playoff, parring the first hole to earn the final berth.

"Both courses played to more than 7,100 yards," noted Wagner's high school coach, Greg Minnich. "I'm sure it was a great experience, especially playing courses set up by the USGA to their tournament standards."
