Ware Center Plans Arts Events

The Arts at Millersville University will present "Acts of Welcome: CWS Lancaster Benefit Concert" during We the People First Friday on Friday, June 6, at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster. The evening will feature local musicians performing in support of Church World Service (CWS) Lancaster, along with the opening of two new art galleries.

Performances will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Steinman Hall. Local artists who will perform include Ever Sandoval, Liz Fulmer, Julia Jordan Kamanda, Kelly Buchanan, Willie Marble, Corinna Joy, The Fetlock and Leanza Duo, Jen Lobo Rose, and Beimnet Getahun. The event is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted for CWS Lancaster, a local nonprofit organization that serves the refugee and immigrant communities of central Pennsylvania.

An opening reception for the PA Migrant Education mural project will be held in the Regitz Gallery from 6 to 8 p.m. The PA Migrant Education Program at Millersville University assists migrant students and their families in overcoming the barriers created by their move into a new school district or community. The murals and artwork within the exhibit reflect the creativity, perseverance, and artistic talent of the students in the program. The exhibit will be on display until Friday, June 27.

In the Lyet Lobby, the photography exhibit "Humanity at War" by Leesha Epler will be on display. From 2009 to 2010, Epler spent time in Iraq while serving with the U.S. Army, and her work is inspired by the Iraqi people. The exhibit, which opened on June 3, will be on display through Thursday, June 12.
