Wayside To Host Seasonal Event

Wayside Presbyterian Church, 600 Stony Battery Road, Lancaster, invites the Hempfield community to its Trunk 'N' Treat on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The event is free to the public, but all children must be accompanied by an adult to participate.

Church members will park their decorated cars in the church parking lot, which will be closed to traffic, and open the vehicles' trunks to pass out candy or treats to attendees. Seasonal music will be provided by Wayside's house band, Grace Notes, and Something Else. Hot dogs and snacks will be offered as long as supplies last.

The Rev. Dr. Steve Fritz emphasized that Wayside is taking extra precautions this year in light of COVID. The extra emphasis on safety will include efforts to maintain social distancing and keep attendees moving, as well as creative methods of delivering the treats.

The Trunk 'N' Treat will be held outdoors in the lower parking lot and spacious covered pavilion at the rear of the church, weather permitting. It will be canceled in the case of inclement weather.

The event began eight years ago with the purpose of providing a safe, family-friendly alternative to trick or treating. This year's event follows Waystock, a community music and fun festival held on Sept. 25, which raised more than $3,500 for the Hempfield Area Food Pantry.

Wayside Presbyterian Church, located between Hempfield High School and the QVC, offers two Sunday services: a traditional service at 9:30 a.m. and a contemporary service at 11 a.m. Additional information is available at http://www.waysidepc.org.
