Waystock to offer music and family fun

Wayside Presbyterian Church invites the community to its 11th annual Waystock event, a music and family fun festival on the lawn of the church property at 600 Stony Battery Road, Landisville. The event will be held on Saturday, June 10, from noon to 5 p.m.

Local bands will perform upbeat, clean music throughout the event, starting with a band from Glossbrenner United Methodist Church at noon, followed by Basic Connection; Grace Notes, Wayside's house band; and Something Else.

A range of free family activities will be available, such as a kids' all-afternoon Block Party, including a 53-foot inflatable obstacle course and balloon creations. Free food and drinks will be available while supplies last, such as snow cones, popcorn, and ice cream. A small silent auction will also be included, and Barnstormers mascot Cylo will be present.

Free play from 12:30 to 5 p.m. will be led by Wayside's director of children's ministries, Miss Sonja, and attendees will have opportunities to learn more about Wayside's ministry to families. Older youths may meet Wayside's youth coordinator, Rachel Holsey, and Michelle Sensenig, the newest member of the Wayside staff, will be with the grade-school children. Attendees may also learn about a variety of children's activities planned over the summer, supplementing regular Sunday family ministries.

Summer activities will include Know & Grow activities for children in kindergarten through grade five from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays, June 14, June 28, July 19 and July 26. Activities will include Bible verses, songs, Lego Day, Cooking Day, Science Day, and Challenge Day. Stay and Play, for children from birth through age 5, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Thursdays, June 15, June 29, July 20 and July 27. Themes will include Superhero Day, Teddy Bear Day, Candyland Day, and a Hawaiian luau. A caregiver is required to stay and participate with this age group. A "Keepers of the Kingdom" vacation Bible school will take place from Monday through Thursday, July 10 to 13. More information and required preregistration are available at http://www.waysidepc.org.

The church grounds include a playground and a shaded, outdoor pavilion. Lawn chairs and blankets for seating are encouraged. In the case of inclement weather, Waystock will move indoors.

The event is free, but participants are encouraged to bring nonperishable canned goods or a cash donation for the Hempfield Area Food Pantry. Attendees who bring five or more items will be entered in a drawing for a gas card.

Waystock's sponsors are Richards Energy, Harmon & Davies Attorneys at Law, High Transit, and Hershey Ice Cream.

Beginning May 28, Wayside will host one Sunday service at 10 a.m., offering a blend of contemporary and traditional music. Starting in September, Wayside will return to hosting two Sunday morning worship choices: a traditional service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by fellowship and a contemporary service featuring Grace Notes from 11 a.m. to noon.
