Wesley Church Posts Craft Fair

Wesley Church, 1104 Kirkwood Pike, Quarryville, will host a craft fair on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The church will sell food during the event, and over 50 vendors will participate. The craft fair is free to attend, but Wesley Church requests that attendees bring nonperishable items to donate to Solanco Neighborhood Ministries' food bank.

Breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs and chicken corn soup will be prepared and sold by members of the church for a set price. The funds raised by the food sales, as well as the fee paid by vendors, will benefit the church's discretionary fund and be used for various projects within the congregation.

Both local vendors and those traveling from other states will sell their items during the craft fair. Several handmade goods will be available to purchase, such as knitted accessories, jewelry, sewn products, kitchenware, artwork made from recycled materials, wooden crafts and baked goods. Every half-hour, a name will be drawn for the door prizes, all of which will be donated by the vendors. "I love seeing all of the creative things people come up with," said Bonnie Aukamp, a coordinator for the event. "People always bring the neatest things and have such great ideas."

Wesley Church first started hosting the craft fair in 2011 and for the last five years has decided to use the event as an opportunity to collect donations for the food bank. The church will also accept donations of hats, scarves and gloves, which will be added to its "mitten tree" and distributed to those in need over the holidays.

Each year during the craft fair, Wesley Church features a specific ministry that is participating in the event as a vendor. This year, the church will highlight the Wesley Military and First Responders Ministry. "Our goal is to help active-duty members of the military and first responders in any way we can," said Annie McCready, a member of the ministry. The group will sell crocheted items, handmade cards and knitted items at the craft fair, and all proceeds from sales will benefit the ministry directly. The ministry's endeavors include sending care packages and Christmas cards to military personnel overseas and delivering cases of water to local fire companies and police departments.
