WHS Graduation Speakers Announced

When Warwick High School (WHS) administrators, faculty members, and students and their family members gather at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, on Monday, June 6, at 6:30 p.m., to graduate the 331 members of the Class of 2022, five of those students will be prepared to present speeches.

Class president Theo Lance, son of Wendy and Jay Lance of Lititz, is basing his talk on his own love of making movies. "I thought if I made a movie about our class what scenes I would include," said Lance, who mentioned the first day of school with a drone shot of students getting out of cars to open the film, followed by students cheering at a football game. Lance noted the sadness of freshman year when several students died and the arrival of the pandemic their sophomore year. "It would end with all of us getting our diplomas and our hats flying into the air," he said. In the fall, Lance plans to attend the Florence, Italy, campus of Marist College to study digital media.

Kendall Eby, daughter of Margot Kusienski of Lititz and Jeff Eby of Lititz, called her speech "Life Is Like a Box of Chocolates." "I felt that was the best way to describe our eclectic experience as a class going through a normal freshman year and then experiencing a global pandemic our sophomore and junior years and coming full circle as seniors," Eby said. In the fall, Eby plans to attend Providence College, Providence, R.I., to major in biology, with plans to go to medical school.

Josh Fackler, son of Lindy and Trace Fackler of Lititz called his speech "Composition of a Warrior." "I am a history nerd. I like to do research," explained Fackler, who spent time over the last year researching WHS. "I have read every yearbook from Warwick High School, so I am in a unique position to figure out what it means to be a Warwick Warrior," he said, noting that he will include the different characteristics and traits of the school district and which of those details signifies being a Warwick Warrior. Following graduation, Fackler intends to attend Gettysburg College to major in history.

Jonah Lenahan, son of Cherie and Matt Lenahan of Lititz, called his speech "Just Warwick." "(When I was writing) my speech, people were telling me to focus on our time at the school and the experiences we had," pointed out Lenahan. "But the more I wrote ... I realized what has been so special ... is that we haven't focused on just Warwick," he said, explaining that the world reached into the students' experiences influencing what they thought and talked about. "My speech is about how it's better to have an education that was interrupted by the world than to have one that is self-focused on ... just Warwick," he said. After graduation, Lenahan will attend Dickinson College in Carlisle to major in political science and religious studies.

As a participant in cross-country and track, Alessa Wenger, daughter of Kristin and Eric Wenger of Lititz, chose the title "The Race of Life" for her speech. "My speech is about how life is like the mile," said Wenger. "I break down each of the four laps (in a mile run) and how each lap is similar to the way we experience life in the challenges we face and the mentality we have to have to get through it," she said, adding, "As we graduate, we are entering our last lap and we should live to our fullest potential and take risks." In the fall, Wenger will attend Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va., to major in computer science and business.
