The Elizabeth Hughes Society will sponsor a $1,000 Women for Women scholarship.

To apply, women must be age 25 or older and reside in the Elizabethtown Area School District. They must have their high school diploma or GED, and they must want to continue their education by working toward a degree, obtaining or renewing a license or certificate, or becoming registered in a profession.

In addition to completing the application, including a short essay, applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from non-family members.

Applications and letters of recommendation must be postmarked by Wednesday, June 1. Applications are available at the Elizabethtown Public Library, 10 S. Market St., and on the Elizabeth Hughes Society's Facebook page.

The recipient will be notified by Thursday, June 30. In the event of a tie, an interview may be required.

The $1,000 scholarship will be paid directly to the educational institution no earlier than Monday, Aug. 1, or will be payable to the recipient after proof of payment for courses or related materials has been received and verified. There is no stipulation for repayment or restitution.
