Women's Club of Manheim will host Holiday Tour of Homes

Pick up some decorating inspiration and get into the holiday spirit by attending the Women's Club of Manheim's Holiday Tour of Homes. The tour will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, and it will feature six private homes and three historic buildings.

"You can tour the homes in any order you would like with no starting or ending point," explained Karen Lewis, tour chair. "There are usually so many different decorating styles and ideas with a good mix of family traditions and collections."

Homes on the tour will include a brick farmhouse built in 1767 that has been owned by a local family for more than 100 years. Decorations will include fresh greens, dried fruit and other natural elements, and handmade Nativities and gingerbread will also be featured.

A Victorian-style home will showcase a collection of nutcrackers, one of which is more than 7.5 feet tall. At another site, a church pew from the original Ruhl's Church building is a focal point of the foyer, and a nature-inspired winter wonderland theme will feature trees, pinecones, greens and snowmen.

The Manheim Historical Society will showcase three of its facilities on the tour. The Fasig and Keath houses, located at 30 and 32 E. High St. respectively, will be decorated in the simple, Colonial style of their 18th-century roots, with live greens, fruit and candies. The Harry B. Shearer Heritage Center, 88 S. Grant St., will display items from the Danner estate as well as three tall case clocks made by Manheim clockmakers between 1797 and the early 1800s.

"All of the money raised from the tour stays in Manheim and is used for community grants and scholarships," Lewis noted. "We also team up with the elementary schools in Manheim to give families Secret Santa presents."

The Women's Club of Manheim meets on the second Tuesday of the month from September through May. The group supports local organizations, including the Manheim Community Library, the Manheim Central Food Pantry, Pleasant View Communities and the Home on Ferdinand. Recent grant recipients have included Manheim Central Post Prom, the Manheim Area Chamber of Commerce and the Manheim Athletic Association.

Tickets for the home tour may be purchased in advance for a discount at Longenecker's True Value, 127 Doe Run Road, Manheim; Shaub's Dry Cleaning, 22 S. Main St., Manheim; or Divine Consign, 37 Market Square, Manheim, or from any member of the Women's Club. Tickets will also be available on the day of the event at any of the locations on the tour.
