Women's Club Will Host Bingo

For a chance to pick up a cute new accessory, make plans to attend the Women's Club of Manheim's designer purse bingo on Saturday, April 2. The event will be held at the Manheim Farm Show Exhibition Center, 502 Adele Ave., beginning at 1 p.m.

"We'll be doing both an in-person bingo and a virtual bingo," said organizer Shayna Sharp. "We're limiting tickets inside to 250 people, so we can have some social distancing, and then we'll also have the option for people to purchase tickets and play virtually through a Zoom link. ... We wanted to give options for people, whether they are comfortable getting together in person or if they feel more comfortable participating from home."

The event will feature 20 regular games of bingo, with three special games. Prizes will be designer purses from brands such as Michael Kors, Kate Spade and Coach. Giveaways will also be featured, with prizes including gift cards, Coach wristlets and gift baskets. Food and drinks will be available for sale as well.

Proceeds from the bingo will be used to fund scholarships for senior girls at Manheim Central High School. The Women's Club also provides thousands of dollars in community grants to organizations including Aaron's Acres, the Manheim Community Library and programs throughout the Manheim Central School District.

"Everything we make goes back into the community," Sharp explained. "This past Christmas, we provided gifts for 29 students in the district. We've also done events for residents at Pleasant View Retirement Community."

Sharp emphasized that the bingo would not be possible without community sponsors. This year's sponsors include Seth Energy, Kopp Electric, Witman Auctioneers, Buch Funeral Home and Zug Family Dentistry, among others.

She noted that the club began hosting the bingo event as a replacement for its annual benefit auction. "We wanted to do something different for the community, and this seemed like a good way for people to have an enjoyable activity to participate in while still giving back to the community," she said.

Sharp emphasized that the virtual component of the bingo not only allows more people to participate, but also widens the range of community supporters. When the group held its virtual bingo last fall, people participated from New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and as far away as California.

She added that she appreciates the support from both the business community and the public for the event. "It's wonderful that people are aware of what the women's club is doing in the community," she noted. "We're helping in any areas where people need help."
