Workshop to focus on human trafficking

A workshop titled "Take a Walk in Her Shoes" will be presented by She's Somebody's Daughter, with Sgt. Wendy Burgwald from the Dauphin County Human Trafficking Task Force and the Derry Township Police Department on Saturday, March 16. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in the Core Cafe at Hershey Free Church, 330 Hilltop Road, Hummelstown. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. Refreshments, including coffee, will be available.

This event is designed to increase awareness of the problem of human trafficking not only nationally or statewide, but also locally in Derry Township. Attendees will learn key definitions and signs of human trafficking. Burgwald will talk about human trafficking locally, and Tanya Pearrell from She's Somebody's Daughter will speak about the organization's work in southcentral Pennsylvania.

The event will open with an interactive simulation during which attendees will have the opportunity to walk the journey of a girl in human trafficking. They will be presented with different scenarios and will face obstacles and choices along the way.

Due to the subject matter, this event may not be appropriate for children or some students and could include triggers depending on personal background.

There is a fee, with a discount for students. Fifty percent of the registration fee will go to She's Somebody's Daughter. To register by Saturday, March 9, visit http://www.hfcinfo.com/workshop.
