World War II veteran to speak

The Military Oral History Club of Lancaster County will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. at VFW Post 2435, 401 Manor St., Columbia. Jack Myers of Maryland will be the guest speaker.

Myers, 100, was drafted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 692nd Tank Destroyer Battalion. He will share his experiences fighting in France, Germany, and Holland; joining Lt. Gen. George Patton Jr.'s forces at the Battle of the Bulge; and liberating Dachau concentration camp.

After 50 years, he began to share about his experiences with the hope that his stories would have a positive impact. Myers has taken part in a number of sponsored trips to Germany and France, including one with members of the Ritchie Boys.
