World War II veteran to speak

The Central Pennsylvania World War II Roundtable will meet on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 433 E. Main St., Hummelstown. Wilbur "Jack" Myers, 100, will speak about his experiences as an anti-tank gunner, supporting the 104th Infantry Division, in the European Theater. The presentation has been rescheduled from July.

Myers, of Hagerstown, Md., entered service in 1943, training in Texas before being sent across the Atlantic to Cherbourg, France. He operated a 3-inch anti-tank gun and later worked in a 40-ton M36 tank destroyer. His battalion advanced to Aachen, Germany, and the Siegfried line and joined Patton's Army at the Battle of the Bulge. During the battle, the battalion served as defense along the Ruhr River.

Myers' left hand was injured on March 20, 1945, and he spent the remainder of the war recovering in England. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his service.

The meeting is open to the public, and no registration is required. For more information, visit http://www.centralpaww2roundtable.org or join the livestream on the YouTube channel Central PA WWII Roundtable.
