YCAS Announces Event Calendar

The York County Astronomical Society (YCAS) is celebrating 16 years of planetarium programs to the public. YCAS will offer afternoon programs for young children and families and evening programs for older family members on Saturday, June 4, at the York Learning Center Planetarium, 301 E. Sixth Ave., York.

The children's program "One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure" will be shown at 2 p.m. Suitable for the entire family, "Forward! To the Moon" will be held at 3:20 and 7 p.m. and "StarWatch" will begin at 2:40 and 7:40 p.m. For older family members, "From Earth to the Universe" will be shown at 8:20 p.m.

There is an admission fee, with a discount for children and seniors. A discounted rate will also apply to any second or third show. Private show reservations are available.

In addition, a free public Starwatch will be held at the observatory at John C. Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York, on Saturday, June 11, from 8 to 10 p.m. The evening will begin with a screened astronomical presentation on current events and the June night sky. Guests will then be guided on a tour of the sky through one of the club's telescopes. Attendees will be shown a host of celestial objects. Attendees are also invited to bring their own telescopes to learn more about using it from YCAS members. The public Starwatch is free, but donations will be accepted.
