Yorkfest to kick off York Arts Week

York City Special Events has announced that Yorkfest will return on Saturday, Aug. 19, to kick off York Arts Week (YAW). Last year in the absence of Yorkfest, YAW launched, showcasing the talent and creativity within the community. This year, York City Special Events will integrate YAW into Yorkfest and let Yorkfest lead the charge. The result will be a weeklong, citywide event intended to celebrate the cultural richness and artistic talent within the community, foster community engagement and inspire creativity in all its forms.

During Yorkfest, art markets will spring up in various districts around downtown York, offering visitors the opportunity to explore and purchase unique artworks while enjoying live music. Yorkfest will also feature kids' activities, fine art exhibitions, films, performances and classes.

Additionally, the Chalk Walk in Continental Square by Creative York will feature artists transforming the pavement into artworks. In Royal Square, The Parliament Arts Organization will host one of the Yorkfest markets, while also unveiling its 10 new murals during a Mural Festival.

Guests are encouraged to park on one side of town and visit the markets in Royal Square, Cherry Lane and WeCo, as well as the Square for the Chalk Walk.

Yorkfest is presented by Glatfelter Insurance Group, and both Yorkfest and YAW are supported by Explore York, UPMC and Green Mountain Energy.
