You Autumn Know About NPMC's Fall Fest

Autumn is officially here and making its presence known. Trees are changing color, the temperature is getting colder, leaves are falling, and people are gathering. On Saturday, Oct. 23, from 2 to 6 p.m., New Providence Mennonite Church (NPMC), 121 Main St., New Providence, will host its second annual fall fest. This time, however, pastor Keith Roberts and his wife, Beth, are going to try to make it a little bigger.

"I just want to see the community come together and enjoy themselves," stated Keith. "People can come here, forget about the news for a while, and just see that there really are good people out there."

The event will provide fun for people of all ages. There will be hayrides, adult- and kid-friendly axe throwing; a photo booth with a giant pumpkin; a petting zoo with chickens, goats, and sheep, pumpkin painting; a ring toss; and a bean bag toss. New this year will be a bounce house.

"When we have our fall fest, it's just hopping with children," said Beth. "It's great to hear their laughter and see the fun."

The baking contest, a favorite last year, will return. Entries, which will be due by 2 p.m. the day of the event, will be judged in four categories: cookies, cakes, pies, and anything pumpkin. Winners will receive ribbons, and at 4 p.m., the baked goods entered in the contest will be auctioned off. Proceeds will go toward the church to continue its community outreach.

In addition to games, crafts, and activities, there will be walking tacos, baked goods, hot dogs, popcorn, and a s'mores bar. Live music will be provided by country duo Barley & Steele. Kenny Barley and Braden Steele have performed locally for several years, and they lead worship at NPMC. Barley plays banjo and bass guitar, while Steele plays guitar and sings. All are welcome to attend. Admission to the event and participation in activities will be free of charge, but donations will be accepted.

"We want people to see there's something new going on at the little church down the road," noted Beth.

In the event of rain, the fall fest will be moved to Saturday, Oct. 30. For more information about the fall fest, call the church at 717-786-4233 and ask to speak with Beth.
