When Carrington Creasy, owner of Cider Press Market, was looking for a Halloween-themed event to hold at the Hub on Market, she found inspiration from a well-loved movie.

"It crossed my mind that 'Hocus Pocus 2' will be released on Sept. 30, and my lightbulb went off," she said. "The original 'Hocus Pocus' is nostalgic for a lot of people, so it was a no-brainer. This had to be our theme. The event is the day after the new movie comes out to keep the excitement going."

Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Soiree will be hosted by Cider Press Market, EVO 206 Coffee Co. and WhirliGig Unique Boutiques. It will run from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Hub on Market, 206 S. Market St., Elizabethtown.

The evening will feature a kids' costume contest for children age 15 and under. Registration for the contest will begin at 5:45 p.m., with voting held from 6 to 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the cutest, most creative and scariest costumes.

From 7 to 9 p.m., "Hocus Pocus" trivia will held at EVO 206 Coffee Co. The game will feature four rounds of trivia, and teams must preregister at the site. There is a charge for trivia, and proceeds will benefit Elizabethtown College's Colleges Against Cancer (CAC). "E-town College's CAC had actually reached out to see if there was anything we could do to help raise funds for them, which was perfect timing," Creasy noted. "One hundred percent of our trivia proceeds will be donated to the organization."

An adult costume contest will be held from 8 to 9 p.m., with registration beginning at 5:45 p.m. Open to people age 16 and up, the contest will feature prizes for the most creative, funniest and scariest costumes.

Throughout the event, children age 12 and under can visit six trick-or-treat stations in the Hub to fill their complimentary trick-or-treat bag. Cocktails for anyone age 21 and older will be available at a Potion Bar, and signature drinks, including Binx Brew and Pocus Punch, will be available for purchase at EVO 206 Coffee Co.

Cider Press Market will be open for shopping during the event and will offer fall mystery bags, giveaways and the launch of the Hocus Pocus Collection of candles and handmade earrings. WhirliGig Unique Boutiques will also be open for shopping and will offer giveaways and "Hocus Pocus"-inspired merchandise.

On Sunday, Oct. 2, Cider Press Market will host a "Hocus Pocus"-inspired wreath-making workshop, beginning at 1 p.m. Participants must register in advance.

Creasy encourages everyone to come out for Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Soiree. "The Sanderson Soiree is a family-friendly event with a little something for everyone," she stated. "It's a perfect way to kick off the Halloween season."
