Youth Volunteer Award available

The Junior League of Lancaster (JLL) will accept applications for the 2023 Deborah P. Altman Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award. The award is named for Altman, a past president of the JLL whose life exemplified a commitment to volunteering, a love of children, and service to the community.

The purpose of the award is to recognize young people who demonstrate exceptional interest, leadership, and involvement in volunteerism as well as the desire to inspire their peers to volunteer in their communities. One high school student will be selected to receive the award, which comes with a prize of $1,800 - $1,500 for the student and $300 for a charity of the student's choosing.

Applications are open to any student who resides in Lancaster County; is ages 16 to 19; has done volunteer work in Lancaster County; is not the child of a Junior League member; and has earned at least a "C" average this year and the previous academic year. Applications will be evaluated based on the quality of volunteer work, documented volunteer work, a reference from the adult associated with the student's volunteer work, the student's documented scholastic record, and a properly completed application packet.

For an application packet, visit http://www.jllancaster.org or high school guidance counselor offices. For more information, contact the Grants Committee at grants@jllancaster.org.

All applications must be received by Monday, March 13. The winner will be notified via email on Friday, April 14, and the award presentation will take place Monday, May 1.
