Library Posts Programs

Adamstown Area Library, 110 W. Market St., Adamstown, will offer a variety of in-person and virtual programs for people of all ages. To register or view more details, visit http://www.adamstownarealibrary.org/events.

The library offers a new Library of Things that allows anyone to borrow a variety of items besides books. Items available for loan include guitars, keyboards, giant Jenga, cornhole, giant chess, lawn bowling, KanJam, bocce ball, Google Cardboard, and more.

The library also offers a Library for Dogs. Visitors can stop along the front sidewalk at the library to take or leave a stick or ball for furry friends.

Flag retirement is a new service that will be offered. When a United States flag becomes worn, faded, torn, or soiled, it should be retired and replaced with a new flag. The library will collect retired flags at the library and deliver them to the Reinholds VFW, which will retire them in proper fashion.

The Friends Book Sale will take place on Tuesdays throughout the month. The sale will run from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

An American Girl giveaway drawing will take place throughout September until the winning prize is awarded. The grand prize includes a gift basket filled with clothing, books, crafts, and more. Visitors may draw a button when they are in the library. If the button has the winning "W" on the back, they will win the grand prize.

The "Read 'em Up and Eat 'em Up" Autumn Reading Program will run through Wednesday, Nov. 30, for children age 12 and under. Participants can earn a free kid's meal from Texas Roadhouse. Reading logs are available at the library. Participants who read 50 books throughout the fall can return their log for a certificate of achievement.

Young At Heart will be sponsored by REAL Life Community Services on Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. Individuals age 60 and older are invited to attend for coffee, chatting, games, crafts, and more. For more information, call 717-336-7797 or visit http://www.reallcs.org.

Several story times will be available to young readers and will include stories, songs and crafts. All programs will begin at 10 a.m., unless otherwise noted. Children must be accompanied by an adult. "Budding Bookworms" Preschool Story Time for children ages 3 to 6 will be held on Wednesdays. "Twinkling Stars" Baby Story Time will be held on Thursdays for children from birth to age 2. "The Young and the Restless" Toddler Time for children ages 2 to 3 will be offered on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring their 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten packets for children who have not begun kindergarten.

Parachute Play at the Grove will be held on Monday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m. Parachute play, a story time, and book checkout will be offered at Adamstown Grove for children ages 2 to 5.

Denver Fair Kiddie Day will take place on Friday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Denver Park. The event will feature a Papa Tater Magic Show, cookies, face painting, a story time with Miss Jess, fire trucks and police cars.

"History of the Conestoga River" will feature a photographic tour down the Conestoga River on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. Lisa Sanchez of the Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will share the history and activities that took place along this Lancaster County waterway in the past and the present. The program is designed for individuals age 15 and up.

The Banned Books Buffet will be held during Banned Books Week from Sunday, Sept. 18, through Saturday, Sept. 24. Participants will read samples of books and have a chance to win a prize. The program is open to people of all ages.

The free Teen Take-and-Make packet pickup for an origami activity will be held on Monday, Sept. 19. The project will include a few simple materials and easy instructions. Supplies are limited.

Almost Perfect Crimes will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. Upon registration, participants will receive the Zoom link and the mini murder mystery story. Additional clues and evidence will be revealed during the meeting as the group tries to solve the crime together. The program is open to teens and adults due to some graphic content.

A school-themed "I Spy" Window Game will be available through October. Patrons may visit the library to spy the fun things on the window and then come inside for a congratulatory sticker. The list of items will change weekly.
