The JFF Cancer Benefit Sale has namesake Jimmy Faus' fingerprints all over it. If you focus deeply enough, you can almost feel his enduring spirit in the event's ambiance.

"I think this fundraiser is another way for a sad mom to keep alive her son's legacy of being such a caring, giving person," said Marie Crawford, the organizer of the JFF Cancer Benefit Sale and Jimmy's mom. "One of his last requests was to donate to people like himself, and this is how I do it."

"The world is a darker, sadder place without him in it," continued Crawford. "He was loved by many, many people. We all miss his beautifully loving, caring soul. His smile was awakening; his laughter was infectious. Many of his friends still carry him with them. When he was with a friend, that is all that mattered at that moment; he gave his undivided attention."

This year's edition of the JFF Cancer Benefit Sale will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Garden Spot Fire Rescue's hall at 339 E. Main St., New Holland. The community event is free to attend, and everyone is welcome.

A graduate of Garden Spot High School, Jimmy Faus passed away on April 19, 2012, following a six-month fight with colon cancer. He was 27.

"The vibes of the day are amazingly kind, soft, caring, helpful, understanding and fun," said Crawford. "It's a special feel that is only explained by 'hometown vibes.' Seeing people come together is very heartwarming to watch unfold."

The JFF Cancer Benefit Sale will feature vendors, craftspeople and small business merchants offering yard sale items, handmade and homemade objects, donated items and themed baskets. The event will also feature music; games; baked goods; and delectable dishes like chicken corn rivel soup, hot sandwiches, potato chips and cold drinks.

Organizers of the JFF Cancer Benefit Sale are hoping to raise more than $6,000, proceeds from which will be donated to a family affected by cancer.

An accomplished soccer player, Jimmy Faus enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, hiking, just about anything outdoors.

"He loved being with friends and family," said Crawford, now a resident of East Petersburg. "He lived life to the fullest. He was a very talented artist as well. This kid could go do anything. He loved working with his hand to build things."
