From classics to muscle cars, street rods, trucks, motorcycles and more, all vehicles are welcome to participate in the Manheim Sertoma Club's Fourth Annual Car Show. The show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Elstonville Sportsmen's Association, 3133 Pinch Road, Manheim.

"If you are passionate about cars and fundraising for nonprofits, please join us for a beautiful day to drive in, relax, reminisce, take a walk to admire some really unique, rare models, original or restored vehicles in the show," said Mark Haldeman, sergeant in arms. "While enjoying good music and food, it's a chance to talk shop and connect with other car enthusiasts."

Fifty awards will be presented, including 46 that are business-sponsored awards, said Wendy Wood, club member and event organizer. The four additional awards are People's Choice, Participant's Choice, Sertoma Choice and Motorcycle Best in Show.

"Each contributing business is invited to (attend) the show and select the winner of their engraved award," Wood explained.

Beyond vehicles, the show will offer a wide variety of food options, as well as activities for the whole family.

Pork barbecue meals will be for sale, with orders due by Tuesday, Sept. 1. To order, contact a Sertoma Club member.

Coffee and doughnuts, options from a food wagon and Kreider's ice cream will be for sale during the show, and a DJ with Bill Coder Entertainment will provide live music.

"Grab family or friends to have your picture taken in our fun photo booth by 30 West Entertainment," Wood said. "Every half hour we will draw door prizes for owners of show cars."

A silent auction and 50/50 giveaways will be held during the show, and there will be opportunities to win additional prizes.

"Door prizes are gift cards donated by local restaurants. Many (giveaway), buy-now and silent auction items are donated by local businesses and individuals in the community of Lancaster and Lebanon counties," Wood said, noting that the club's Facebook page will showcase available items.

The car show began after Wood joined the Manheim Sertoma Club four years ago.

"I was thinking, 'How can I help our club organize a new venue to raise money for particular nonprofit organizations in the community?'" she recalled. "I love classic cars, the muscle sound of the engine and the image of the different and unique vehicles rolling through the streets. I loved going to car shows with my parents when I was a teenager with their 1969 Camaro. The music was great; the people and stories were interesting to listen to, and there were so many great classic cars that caught my eye."

She presented the idea of a car show to the club members, and the event was created to bring the community together and raise money for people in need.

Proceeds from the show will benefit Hope Served, which will use its portion of the proceeds for job training and employment for individuals with disabilities; Manheim Community Life Group, which will use its portion to support ongoing programs at the Home on Ferdinand, which includes providing individualized case management for each of the residents and free counseling; and Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, which will use its portion of the proceeds to help meet the gap of $150 cost per day to provide skilled nursing care to its residents. Representatives from all three nonprofits will be on-site during the car show.

"Last year we had 240 registered show cars from all over Lancaster, Lebanon and Dauphin counties at our show," Wood shared. "Family and friends that came out to support all the nonprofits accounted for more than 500 people in attendance. It was amazing the amount of community support."

A nationally affiliated nonprofit public service organization, the Manheim Sertoma Club has served the community of Manheim and the surrounding area since 1958, said Skip Shimko, club president.

He explained that "Sertoma" is an acronym taken from the club's mission, "Service to Mankind."

Pulling off a successful car show requires a team effort, Wood noted.

"We have great appreciation to have the support of so many businesses and individuals within the community who have sponsored this year's show and in years past," she said. "We have a community with huge helping hearts willing to listen and give for the care of others. Thank you!"

The deadline to preregister for the car show is Sept. 1, and anyone who registers by that date will receive a goodie bag. There is a discount for preregistering. People may also register their vehicle on the day of the show for an additional cost.

The car show is a cash-only event; an ATM will be available on-site.

The Manheim Sertoma Club meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the Manheim Scout Hall, 1 Scout Alley. The club is always seeking new members.
