Bears Close Out Soccer Season at 6-7-3 Overall
As the days in October move along so does the high school sports season with the boys' soccer team reaching the end of the 2021 line. The Bears closed the regular season on a down swing leading to a 6-7-3 overall record.
One of those down swings came via a 1-0 loss to Manheim Central on the 7th. Dominic Santana turned away three shots but was unable to stop Bradyn Dombach's shot in the 63rd minute, giving the Barons the win.
E-town closed out the season on the 11th with a 3-2 overtime loss to McCaskey. Santana finished with four saves while Juan Lopez netted a first half score and Tavon Schoenberger, with help from Wyatt Rachel, accounted for the second half goal.
In between the two losses the Bears managed a 1-1 tie opposite Governor Mifflin on the 9th. Rachel picked up another assist, this time knotting the game in the 73rd minute by setting up Jason Stark. Santana preserved the tie with a six save game.

GIRLS' SOCCER
The girls' soccer team may have come up short on a postseason bid but the Lady Bears closed out the regular season with a four-game winning streak. The winning started on the 6th when E-town topped Manheim Central 3-2 in overtime. Keegan Miller needed one save to secure the win thanks to Lily Heistand's two scores coupled with the game winner from Jena Witters.
Heistand continued her Central scoring spurt one day later when she put E-town up early in a rematch against Manheim. Danielle Bruno's score in the 25th minute proved to be the difference thanks to Miller's five saves.
A short three-day rest gave way to another back-to-back setup, this one to close out the season. Elizabethtown topped McCaskey by a 5-0 count on the 11th before finishing with a 3-1 win over Cocalico on the 12th.
Heistand netted another two scores against McCaskey and added two assists. Witters matched Heistand's two assists but had just one score while Adyson Haak and Taryn Hummer finished the scoring. Miller split time in goal with Zoe Boksan.
E-town's season ended one day later with that 3-1 win over Cocalico. This time it was Witters pacing the offense with two scores while Aivery Shuck tacked on a penalty kick score late. Miller went solo between the pipes and finished with four saves.
VOLLEYBALL

Elizabethtown needed all five to get by Ephrata on the 7th, posting a 25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 23-25, 15-11 win. TENNIS
The banner season for the girl's tennis team continued on October 7th, 9th and 11th as the Lady Bears took part in the L-L Flight Tournament. "Seeing so many of our girls playing on finals day in intense playoff matches represented such an amazing day for our program," said newly anointed L-L Coach of the year Brenda McBride. "It is a rare and special thing to have this many players that have advanced this far in the league tournament. Each of them played inspired tennis."
One of the 'final day' players was the Section Two Player of the Year, Allison Evans, who earned Section Two All-Star honors along with L-L All-Star honors. Evans topped Ryan Gerhardt of Lampeter-Strasburg to take fifth in the Flight One Singles tournament which also earned her an at-large bid into the District 3-3A Singles Tournament.
Elizabethtown's other Section Two All-Star, Rylee Bender, fell to Manheim Township's Jade Miller in the semifinals. Julia Anderson brought home silver after a loss to Hempfield's Alex Gregory in the Flight Three finals. Nizaly Ortiz-Kreiner brought home gold for her work in the Flight Four bracket. Ortiz-Kreiner also enjoyed a silver medal for her doubles work with Anderson in the Flight Two bracket while Bender and Evans bowed out of the Flight One bracket in the quarterfinals.
