Concert series to kick off
The Big Big Jazz Band (BBJB) and Flipside Big Band will present the first in a series of free summer concerts sponsored by West Lampeter Township and Rotary Club Lancaster South on Sunday, June 4. The two-hour concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Lampeter YMCA Amphitheater, 800 Village Road (Route 741), Lancaster.
The event will be a tribute to trombonist Bob Troxell, who recently died just short of his 100th birthday and for many years directed the Bob Troxell Big Big Jazz Band. BBJB is now directed by Gary Peters, and Flipside is directed by Howard Boots.
BBJB's selections will include "Strike Up the Band," "Switch in Time," "Georgia on My Mind," "Fever," "Shiny Stockings," "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Come Rain, Come Shine," "Singing With the Big Bands," "Blues in the Night," and "The Party's Over." BBJB's vocalist will be Maryann Garrett.
Flipside's selections will include "In the Mood," "Hawaiian War Chant," "Hallelujah I Love Her So," "Mack the Knife," "What a Wonderful World," "The Lady Is a Tramp," "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen," "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," "What the World Needs Now," "Sing, Sing, Sing" featuring Howard Boots, and "Baby, Won't You Please Come Home?" Flipside vocals will be performed by Rich and Karen Taraborelli.
