CV Volleyball Records Mixed Results

Split results brought CV volleyball's record to 2-1 midway through last week, registering their first loss at Warwick after blanking Cedar Crest the week before.

Warwick proved to be a formidable opponent, and the Lady Bucks dropped their first contest on the Warriors court in a back-and-forth battle that went to five games (13-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19, 15-7).

CV had upper hand early on led by 17 kills from Madison Williams and Summer Getz who put up 36 assists and a pair of aces.

The Warriors pulled together some late game momentum despite strong defensive efforts from CV's Emily Kornacki (19 digs) and five blocks from Camdyn Mahler.

On September 9th, the Bucks took control of their 3-0 win over Cedar Crest, jumping out to a 25-11 first game win. Though Crest tightened things up after that, CV still got the job done in three (25-11, 25-19, 25-23).

"I was pleased to see us put together a complete match," noted head coach Devin Moore. "It was good to see the team implementing some of the out of system work and attacking options with our pins and middles."

Becca Hartranft powered eight kills and Getz added 21 assists. Rhiannon Henry collected six aces in the win.

Kornacki provided 11 digs and Jordyn Hironimus added a pair of blocks.

GIRLS' SOCCER

The girls' soccer team reached a 1-1 stalemate against Hempfield last week, their second draw of the season, in addition to picking up a win over Warwick.

Eighty minutes of regulation and two overtime extensions was not enough to settle the row between CV and Hempfield last Tuesday. Both teams scored in the first half but were unable repeat that success before the extended minutes expired.

Mae Linder propelled the shot that deflected off a Hempfield defender and into the netting for CV's tally. On the opposite end of the field, Riley Houck collected nine saves.

The club celebrated their first win of the season on the 10th with a 1-0 victory over the Warwick.

Delainey Varela-Keen netted the game-winner burying a PK to put the Bucks ahead, and the CV defense staved off the Warwick offense, anchored by sophomore keeper Erin Figart with five saves.

Last Tuesday's quad match at Manheim Township boasted two wins for the CV girls' team and one for the boys.

The girls raced to victory over Ephrata and Solanco, only succumbing to Township in the team rankings.

Township runners accounted for seven of the top 10, but Kylynn Frankford broke up the pack with her seventh-place finish and a time of 22:07 to lead the CV effort.

Seana Dougherty also raced her way into the top 10 with her time of 22:25 to place 10th. Abigail Zook and Kylee Antrim crossed back-to-back in 14th and 15th respectively.

FOOTBALL

On the 10th, CV hosted Lampeter-Strasburg for the annual Lampeter Bowl and after a 19-0 slide in favor of the Pioneers the trophy went home with L-S.

Defense was the name of the game and L-S managed to post their second consecutive shutout in addition to retaining possession of the trophy. L-S picked up their first six points in the second quarter nudging Jonathan Mellinger into the end zone on one of two 1-yard run TDs for the night. The Bucks managed to block the PAT, and the scoreboard remained unaltered at 6-0 until the Pioneers ran in two more short trips to the end zone in the fourth.

Nick Tran covered the most ground for CV, rushing for 94 yards and quarterback Macoy Kneisley threw eight completions for 53 yards.

FIELD HOCKEY

After a 3-1 loss to Manheim Township last Monday, CV rebounded with a 4-1 win over Hempfield two days later to start their league schedule with split results.

In Wednesday's win over the Knights, the scoring didn't get underway until the second quarter, but once it did, the CV attack was steady and diversified, with all four goals coming from a different Buckskin stick.

Lillian Buckwalter opened with her second quarter goal and Mikyla Rineer netted hers in the third. Sydney Weaver and Alaina Culbert each notched a fourth quarter tally, while Weaver and Ellie Hershey were credited with assists.

Monday's contest at Manheim Township was knotted at one apiece heading into the second half, but the Streaks managed score in both the third and fourth quarters to pull away, 3-1.

To claim the 6-0 win, sisters Jenna and Megan Rychener paired for an 8-6 doubles win. Keyshla Baez and Savanna Burkholder won 8-4, and Nicole Fidler and Ella Turoczi added an 8-3 victory. Burkholder and both Rycheners went on to earn singles points to complete the sweep.
