Dance classes planned in Strasburg

Strasburg Dance will begin its second year of classes on Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, 101 S. Decatur St.

The pre-ballet classes, tailored for children ages 4 to 9, strongly emphasize classical ballet while introducing interpretive dance styles. Students learn individual poses and movements, which are woven into short dance numbers with choreography. Brief seasonal showcases and recitals allow young dancers to display their progress to friends, family, and loved ones.

Strasburg Dance uses the Montessori approach, focusing on ability rather than age with the aim of creating cohesive and supportive groups. Children of different ages and skill levels come together and often form friendships in the process. Teacher Ally Reitzel noted that students' connections across age groups can foster compassion and growth, resulting in a decrease in competitiveness and an increase in camaraderie.

Strasburg Dance is dedicated to making dance accessible and flexible for all families. There is a monthly fee for the subscription-based classes, and families can join at any time. Additionally, Strasburg Dance aims to keep spring recital costumes affordable.
