Donegal Swimmers Compete in State Finals

Four Donegal swimmers took a trip to the PIAA State Tournament last weekend and brought home three medals along with memories for a lifetime.

Ethan Shonk secured a pair of fifth-place medals for his performances in the 200 free (1:45.51) and the 100 backstroke (52.08). Both of Shonk's races resulted in new personal best times and his backstroke time established a new Donegal school record.

Ever pushing himself to do better, the junior already has his sights set on next year.

"He would have liked to swim faster, but he knows what he needs to work on and is ready to start putting in the hard work for his senior year," noted coach Alison Kreider who has been coaching Donegal swimmers since 2013.

Jordynn Park earned a sixth-place medal for her time of 1:06.28 in the breaststroke and paired it with an 11th place butterfly performance (59.05).

Claire O'Neill clocked a 2:10.3 in the 200 IM cruising to a ninth-place finish, while Grant Leibfried took thirteenth in the butterfly (53.05).

"Claire and Jordynn were happy to be able to finish their senior year at the State meet," pointed out Kreider. "They were able to walk away from the meet with their heads up and both excited for what college will bring them."
