Eight Pioneers Named As Basketball All-Stars
The Lampeter-Strasburg (L-S) basketball teams, after their impressive postseason runs, were well represented in the recent all-star voting. Head coaches Ed Berryman and Tony Fink were each voted Section Three Coach of the Year for the third time since the 2016-17 season.
"It is a pleasure to know that the L-L League Coaches Association holds our head coaches in such regard to acknowledge them for Coach of the Year honors," said Dr. Branden Lippy, athletic director. "Far beyond what Coach Fink and Coach Berryman do on the court for L-S, their character, integrity, and dedication are the reasons why our basketball programs are successful. They are true leaders and Pioneers."
Top all-stars for the boys' team included Ty Burton as Player of the Year, a unanimous selection. He and Ben Wert were also unanimously selected as first team all-stars. Also receiving recognition was Luka Vranich with first-team honors and Isaiah Parido and Berkeley Wagner with second-team recognition.
The boys' team finished the season with a 28-1 record. They were Section Three champs, Lancaster-Lebanon League champs, and District Three 5A champs. Burton was the team's leading scorer with a 21.39 average. Wert was second, averaging 13.89 points per game. Parido led the way in three-point shooting with a team-high 67. He finished with 102 for his career.
Leading the girls' team, which finished at 15-12, were seniors Kiersten Hostetter and Jenna Daveler. Hostetter, the leading scorer with a 9.63 ppg average, was a first-team all-star while Daveler, who averaged 9.52 ppg, was a second-team all-star and was voted to the all-defensive team. Maggie Visniski was an all-academic team selection.
