Fair to include baking contests

The West Lampeter Community Fair will include various baking contests. Entries will be received on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 1 to 9 p.m., and the fair will run from Wednesday to Friday, Sept. 25 to 27. The winning baked goods will be eligible for competition at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in January 2025, where the first-place winners will receive a cash prize.

For the 20th annual INCREDIBLE Angel Food Cake Contest, cakes must be entirely made from scratch, and the recipe must be submitted with the cake. Bakers are asked to use Pennsylvania-produced eggs, if possible. Entrants may not have won first place in the INCREDIBLE Angel Food Cake Contest at any other fair in 2024. Cash prizes will be awarded for first through third places.

For the Homemade Chocolate Cake Contest, the entry must be a layered chocolate cake that is frosted. The entire entry, including the frosting and any filling, must be made from scratch, and the cake recipe must feature chocolate or cocoa as a main ingredient. Entrants must be individual amateur bakers who reside in Pennsylvania.

Bakers may also enter the 36th annual Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Baking Contest.

Participants in the Junior Baking Cookies-Brownies-Bars Contest must be individual amateur bakers ages 8 through 18 who are residents of Pennsylvania. Entries must be made from scratch and include two PA Preferred or locally purchased ingredients.

The Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs (PSACF) sponsors the angel food cake, chocolate cake and apple pie contests. The youth contest is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's PA Preferred program and coordinated by PSACF.
