Friends Continue To Support Police

In 2023, the Friends of the Force will celebrate their 14th year of supporting the West Lampeter Township Police Department (WLTPD). The 12-member Friends organization is a 501(c)(3) whose goal is to promote civic spirit in support of public safety and security.

Working closely with Police Chief Brian Wiczkowski, the Friends support the WLTPD by reimbursing the township for equipment repairs, officer training, and some new equipment. West Lampeter Township provides the bulk of the funding for WLTPD. The Friends can supplement this funding when needs arise outside the normal budgetary process, helping to limit policing costs per resident.

In 2022, thanks to the contributions of local citizens, the Friends reimbursed the township more than $38,952 for police purchases it made. The funds assisted in the purchase of emergency and safety equipment, officer weapons, software, training and more.

In 2023, the Friends hope to provide equipment for the three new patrol cars being purchased by West Lampeter. In addition, the Friends are committed to assisting with full implementation of the AXON Virtual Reality training to help train officers in de-escalating potentially volatile situations. The Friends will continue to provide PoliceOne Academy online training for every officer.
