Garden Spot concludes indoor track season
Garden Spot High School's indoor track team completed the 2025 indoor season on March 2 with two athletes qualifying for the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association (PTFCA) Indoor State Championship at Penn State University. Franchesca Severino qualified in high jump, and Sadie Stubbs qualified in long jump. Severino finished 14th, jumping 5 feet, 1 inch. Stubbs finished 10th, jumping 17 feet, 5.25 inches, a new personal record.
Five athletes also qualified for the PTFCA Carnival at Lehigh University on Feb. 8. Andrew Pemberton finished eighth in the 60-meter dash with 7.22 seconds; Jadon Rodriguez tied for 11th place in the high jump with 5 feet, 7 inches; and Jarret Waltman finished sixth in long jump with 20 feet, 11 inches. Megan Hechler finished 11th in high jump with 4 feet, 9 inches and 11th in the 60-meter hurdles with 9.76 seconds; Hechler also medaled in the 400-meter dash, finishing fifth with a time of 61.72 seconds. Stubbs finished 12th in the 60-meter dash with 8.32 seconds and medaled in long jump, placing fifth with 16 feet, 11.25 inches.
The indoor track team competed at six other all-day invitationals hosted by Alvernia University, Franklin & Marshall College, Bucknell Univeristy, and the University of Pennsylvania, including the Lancaster-Lebanon (L-L) League Challenge. Athletes competing at the L-L League Challenge included Justine Dixon, Aubrey Good, Hechler, Izzy Holland, Emerson Moore, Wynne Kelly, Stubbs, Landon Freidel, Michael Good, Gabe Hoover, Jonathan Kauffman, Andrew Pemberton, Jaden Rodriguez, John Steiginga, and Jarrett Waltman. This invite allowed the Garden Spot team members to compete against student-athletes from fellow L-L League schools.
The indoor team was led by coaches Devon Lewis, sprints; Trevor Lehman, jumps; and Cera Gaston, distance. The sponsors were Garden Spot Dental Care, New Holland Shell, and Hershey Surveying.
The team is transitioning to its outdoor season. The first outdoor dual meet will be against Warwick on Monday, March 24, at 4 p.m. in and behind the high school stadium, located on Grandview Drive in New Holland. Other home meets will occur on Monday, March 31; Monday, April 14; and Tuesday, April 22. April 22 will be senior night. Attendees may watch the Garden Spot athletes compete in 18 different events.
