Gehr, Swanson Compete in District 3 Regionals
The Garden Spot wrestling team came away with two third-place wrestlers in the District Three Class 3A South Central Regionals at Big Spring High School on Saturday, February 27. Those positions helped Garden Spot finish 12th in the team standings with 30 points. Central Dauphin finished on top with 94 points, edging Manheim Township by a single point.
In the 132-pound weight class, Garrett Gehr suffered a loss to Cumberland Valley's Kyle Miller in the quarterfinals. He came on for a 13-1 major decision against Solanco foe Jackson Houghton in the consolations.
Gehr outlasted Arik Harnish of Lampeter-Strasburg in a 6-3 decision before earning third place with another major - the 11-0 defeat of Dallastown's Ashton Deller.
The 285-pound brackets welcomed Duston Swanson of Garden Spot. Swanson had a tough 7-4 defeat in the first round. He took his vengeance on Hempfield's Caleb Mussmon in a first-period pin.
Swanson pinned a very tough adversary in the consolation semis, Zach Shelley of Lampeter-Strasburg. Swanson solidified third place with a 2:15 fall over Trevor Gallagher of Gettysburg.
