Lampeter Fair Posts Baking Contests

Four baking contests will be offered at the Lampeter Fair. All entries will be received on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 1 to 9 p.m., and the fair will be held from Wednesday to Friday, Sept. 28 to 30. Bakers may enter the 34th annual Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Baking Contest, sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs (PSACF). Lampeter Fair's contest is a preliminary competition that leads to the selection of the final Blue Ribbon Apple Pie winner each January at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. The first-place winner at the Farm Show will be awarded a cash grand prize. The rules for the contest are located on page 100 in the fair book.

The Homemade Chocolate Cake Contest, sponsored by the PSACF, is open to individual amateur bakers who are residents of Pennsylvania. The entry must be a layered chocolate cake that is frosted, and the entire entry must be made from scratch. The cake recipe must feature chocolate or cocoa as a main ingredient. The Lampeter Fair contest is a preliminary competition for the statewide contest, with the winner chosen at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. The first-place winner at the Farm Show will receive a cash prize. The contest rules are on page 98 in the fair book.

The 18th annual INCREDIBLE Angel Food Cake Contest is sponsored by Pennsylvania Egg Farmers and the PSACF. Entrants may not have won first place in this Angel Food Cake Contest at any other fair in 2022. Cash prizes will be awarded for first through third places, and the winning cake will be eligible to compete for a cash prize at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. When entering cakes, which must be entirely made from scratch, bakers must also submit the recipe. Pennsylvania produced and packed eggs are requested to be used, if possible, and bakers should look for the PEQAP or Pennsylvania packaging dates on the carton. The PA Preferred Junior Baking Cookies, Brownies, and Bars Contest is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's PA Preferred program and coordinated by the PSACF. The contest is open to individual amateur bakers ages 8 through 18 who are residents of Pennsylvania. The entry must be made from scratch and include two PA Preferred or locally purchased ingredients. The winner will be eligible to compete at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, where the winner will receive a cash prize. Rules are printed on page 72 in the fair book.
