New basketball league posted
The York County Safety Collab, a network of law enforcement entities, faith-based organizations and nonprofits, will host its first community basketball league, the Safer Together Basketball League. Games are open to the public and will be held at Logos Academy, 250 W. King St., York.
The Safer Together Basketball League's purpose is to bridge the gap between various professions, students, and law enforcement to foster a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone involved. The goal is to create teams composed of law enforcement, medical and first responders, educators and counselors, families, and students and young adults who are in sixth grade through college age, encouraging them to spend quality time together and build strong connections within the community.
A play-in day will occur on Friday, Sept. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m., and it will include refreshments and non-competitive play. Players will be drafted, teams will be balanced, and volunteer coaches will select their teams.
Games will be played from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, as well as from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5; Friday, Oct. 6; Thursday, Oct. 12; and Friday, Oct. 13. Championship Day will be Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 to 11 a.m.
While 100% participation is not mandatory, participants are asked to make an effort to attend the games out of consideration of teammates and the community spirit. Through a grant issued by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, most of the program costs are covered. However, participants may consider a donation to support the cause of building trust between the community and law enforcement.
