Orchestra sets "Extraordinary Duos" concert

The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra (LSO), led by music director Michael Butterman, will present "Extraordinary Duos" on Friday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 28, at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Gardner Theatre within Lancaster Country Day School, 725 Hamilton Road, Lancaster. A free lecture will begin 45 minutes before each performance.

With the LSO musicians taking center stage as featured soloists in three double concertos, the concert will give audiences a taste of the early Baroque era, which often showcased the individual members of the orchestra. Violinists Luigi Mazzocchi and Dana Allaband will perform J.S. Bach's Concerto for 2 Violins in D Minor, trumpeters Luis Engelke and Guy McIntosh will perform Vivaldi's Concerto for 2 Trumpets in C Major, and oboists Dana Newcomb and Noelle Drewes will perform Viet Cuong's "Extra(ordinarily) Fancy."

This concert will also feature Maurice Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperin" - a tribute to the Baroque virtuoso François Couperin - along with Ernest Bloch's Concerto Grosso No. 1 - a reimagining of the standard Baroque format.

Free parking is available on-site. To purchase tickets, call the LSO box office at 717-291-6440 or visit http://www.lancastersymphony.org/extraordinary-duos.
