Teagan Weaver's firsts in the 100, 200 and triple jump as well as two relay wins propelled the Pioneers past visiting Manheim Central, 86-64, Monday, May 2.

Ben Devine, Parker Stoner, Eric Doutrich and Luka Vranich took the 4x800 to open the meet and Aidan Black, Stoner, Doutrich and Vranich won the 4x400 to conclude the action on the track.

"Parker was also second in the open 400 for a 1-2 finish behind Luka," noted head coach Cal Esh.

Colin Whitaker and Devine went 1-2 in the 3200, Whitaker took the 800 and Devine was tops in the mile.

In the field, L-S swept the pole vault with Luke Wiley, Mitchell Livengood and Aiden Wiley while Artem Nebel and Yasin Abdi went 1-2 in the triple and Jones won the javelin.

The girls, on the other hand, suffered their first loss of the season, 82-68, winning just eight of 18 events.

"Their 4x400 looked almost unbeatable," said Esh, "but we pulled that out! And our throws out performed expectations."

Madison Malcolm, Maddie Weichler, Tori Heiserman and Hannah Gawne took that neck-and-neck 4x100 at the wire. Gawne also led a sweep in the 200 with Lyndi Wall and Weichler. Heiserman took the 800, Wall was first in the 100 and Keira Smecker was all alone up front in the 3200.

Maggie Swarr led the throws with firsts in the javelin and shot and a second in the discus with Kelsey McTaggart taking thirds in the discus and javelin and second in the shot.

On Saturday, April 30, and the Dallastown Invitational, Whitaker set a new school record in the mile with a first place time of 4:23.61.

GIRLS' LAX

A pair of back-to-back non-league wins over Central York (19-7) and Eastern York (20-11) along with a dominating 20-3 over Cedar Crest pushed the Pioneers' overall record to 11-2 and gave them three straight wins since a 12-7 league loss to Hempfield. Back in league play on the 28th, L-S dropped a 20-3 result at Township.

Highlighting non-league action was Hannah Gawn hitting the 100 careers goal mark against CY. She hit that mark on the nose with three goals and added three assists as well.

"While goals scored is what everyone focuses on, my 100 goal scorers have even gaudier numbers in the draw controls, ground ball pickups and caused turnovers," praised head coach Marshall Krebs. "They, Rowan Kimmel (76g, 30a) and Hanna (51g, 27a..as of MT), aren't just scorers; they are complete players and playmakers. And both of these accomplishments happened with both missing the infamous 'Covid cancelled' season."

Kimmel (7g, 3a) led the attack against CY and added eight goals and one assist against EY. "But we are also getting good production from sophomore Hanna Cissne (43g, 11a) and freshman Ryan Logan (33g, 8a) while senior Kelly Hostetter is third on the team with 27 assists," added Krebs.

Last Tuesday the girls hosted Warwick and improved to 12-3 overall with an 18-7 triumph. The hosts got a seven goal, two assist game from Kimmel and jumped out to a 12-5 first half lead. Gawne chipped in with a hat trick of goals and assists while Logan (3g), Cissne (2g) rounded out the double-digit scorers.

TENNIS

The tennis team opened post-season play over the last week as they competed in the Lancaster-Lebanon League Flight Championships where Andrew Reidenbaugh rose to a second place finish in Flight 2. Seeded 5th, Reidenbaugh topped Elco's Trevor Spang and Cocalico's Max Hershey in straight sets before facing Nick Keener in the semifinals. Keener upset the top seed Steven Dupler (ET) and outlasted PV's Jazae Hegi in three sets to get to the semis. Reidenbaugh advanced to the finals with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 win. In the finals, he dropped a 6-4, 6-3 match to LCD's Carson Weigle, the No. 2 seed.

In Flight 1, Weston Weaver drew No. 2 seed Michael Georgelis (MT), who advanced to the finals, and bowed out with a straight set loss.

In Flight 3 seventh seed Spencer Teaman dropped a tough one to McCaskey's Jared Groff, 6-2, 5-7, 12-10.

Cole Teaman had a tough draw in Flight 4, taking on top seed Gonzalo Diez Vilarino (LCD), who advanced with a 7-6, 6-1 win.

BASEBALL

The baseball team faced Lebanon (the 29th), and Etown (May 2nd) over the last week and remained in the hunt for a Section Two title with wins.

Against the Cedars the Pioneers' Gehrig Harsh (3-3 with a double and 3RBI) led a 10-hit effort while Parido was 2-3 with a triple and 2RBI in the 9-4 victory.

L-S scored runs in each of the first five innings, taking advantage of four errors and two walks. Peyton Harsh picked up the win with seven strikeouts, three walks and four hits over 5.1 innings. Mason Coe gave up one hit, struck out one and walked two in relief.

Monday night against the Bears, L-S fought off a 2-0 deficit to win 6-4. The hosts scored four in the fifth, courtesy of Parido's grand slam, to gain momentum, gave up two in the sixth and picked up an insurance run in the bottom half to stay in front.

Gio Malatesta and Brayen Adams were both 2-3. Jason Long struck out six, walked three and gave up seven hits in six innings to get the win. Gehrig Harsh, with two strikeouts in the final inning, got the save.

BOYS' LACROSSE

Lampeter's 13-game winning streak ended Saturday morning, April 30, with an 11-4 loss to Central York. Despite a 34-25 advantage in shots on goal, L-S could not find the back of the net. Barrett Denlinger (2g), Zach Labreque (1g) and Colin Sullivan (1g, 1a) were the scoring leaders. Bryce Thomas collected five saves in goal.

Wednesday the Pioneers poured in 10 first quarter goals en route to a lopsided 19-1 triumph at Bishop McDevitt. Denlinger and McClain, with 6 and 5 goals respectively, were the top scorers.

SOFTBALL

The softball team put together a pair of shutouts before returning to Section Two play with games against E-town, and Cocalico.

Ally Raub tossed a 1-hitter in Lampeter's 26-0 win over Lebanon on the 29th. She also went 4-5 at the plate with three doubles. Keiva Middlton was 3-5 and Gabby Hiles was 3-3 with 3 RBI and a two-run homer in the first inning, leading a 25-hit attack.

Saturday morning Hiles continued her hot hitting, going 2-3 with 5 RBIs in a three-inning, 15-0 shutout against West York. Kara Scranton (2-3, 3RBI), and Raub (2-2, 2RBI) contributed to the eight-hit effort.

Middlton tossed a no-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks, pushing Lampeter's overall record to 10-2.

Monday at E-town, LS jumped out to a 7-0 lead before surrendering two runs in the seventh for a 7-2 victory. Middleton struck out eight, walked one and gave up six hits then helped her cause with a RBI triple. Raub (2-4, 1RBI), Brooke Zuber (2-4) and Scranton (2-4, 2 RBI) finished with multiple hits on the day.
